Drifting new assemblage sculpture

A new one for 2019, I started this last year but abandoned it when I lost focus on what I was doing with it.  I finally got to work on it after staring at it for a couple of months on my work table and formulating ideas. Getting into the proper headspace and listening to some Jazz, specifically Ike Quebec and Pharaoh Sanders, which is new to me.
This piece is 24" x9"x7" and is cobbled together with a variety of found wood from the swap meet and beach flotsam, metal, rubber squares, glass, an assortment of old paper found at the swap meet, the image of the man on the top of the sculpture is a glass negative I found broken at the swap meet for $1. I used acrylic paint, paint pens, pencil for mark making and a bit of collage to complete this piece.
The words I wrote for it and gave me the final idea to complete the sculpture are:

The search for your invisible heart has been plagued as I drift from one outpost to another.
I remember sitting next to you the man who called me son,
your hands clasped as if in prayer, the wooden hands of an idol.
When I stumbled upon your crumbling body,
 that monument of pain,
I dug into your heart and found an empty mine, it's treasures looted and buried in time.

Mixed Media Assemblage Titled Gravity June 2018

Heres a new assemblage sculpture i've made 24' X 25" x9"  I've tilted it Gravity.
Incorporated into it are collage, ceramic, metal, wood, glass. The words that are on the wood on the left and right side of the sculpture are:
Prepared as I am to watch my step
I have to keep a vigilant eye
All this time I've had eyes in my head
Yet I couldn't see that I've been dead
For as long as I can remember.

I hope its interpreted in the spiritual sense!

New Assemblage for 2018

A New Assemblage I've been working on for 2018
30"x 20"x 7"
Titled - I Can't Keep My Eyes Off You.
Another meditation on impermanence.
This one took me awhile to complete I don't know if it was because I was struggling with what materials to use/ how to use them or the fact that I was back surfing again and that burned up some of my creative time in the day. I have to keep telling myself that I should have no preconcieved notions on what a sculpture should look like. I want to combine and juxtapose whatever materials I deem important to the final result. I'm trying to get away from allowing the shape of the material I use in the sculpture to determine the final look. I looking for something amorphous,  something like an exploded diagram of a three dimensional object.
I'm trying to get away from allowing myself to be lured into putting things into the four surfaces of a container like some of my older pieces.

These collages are all 10"x14" and hand cut with an xacto blade or small scissors. Images culled from literally 60 magazines and books and more than a few hours spent on each one! I also used pencils ranging from 3H to 6 B for small details  and blending edges.

Handcut collage 2016 june

This hand cut collage is 8" x 11" and uses 11 separate pieces to make up this image
took me a few days for this one.... searching for the right black and white images that have depth,   images that have contrast ranges from soft to sharp and interesting subject matter. All juxtaposed to create a surreal scene!
