I took a bit of time off from creating things, went to the swap meets stocking up on materials for future artworks and compiling images for upcoming use. This is my first artwork for the year and i'm stoked on the result. I titled the artwork: Guardian of the Threshold, refering to our worlds ideas of duality and the resulting illusions caused by our concepts of duality and our desire to achieve a balance in this world between positive and negative, light and dark, male and female, good and evil.
I like using the grid as a template and references to maps with lines, dots, alphabetic and numeric codes as a loose allusion to an inner geography.
I'm using this handmade paper 29" X 20" that is translucent and has a oily mottled texture to it. The paper enabled me to layer imagery from collage, my drawings watercolor, gesso and gold leaf and resulted in some neat effects. I used graphite pencils, watercolors, gold leaf and collage in this piece. I'm still trying to decide if its completed or not.
Love to see this one in situ Tom...
ReplyDeleteThanks rob, yeah as you know viewing the original give you a better prospective and ability to see the finer smaller details which this one has a bit of. And viewing this one in sunlight as opposed to artificial light kinda deepens the colors of the gold leaf...
